International Institute of Rural Reconstruction‘s Mission
The International Institute of Rural Reconstruction enables communities and those who work with them to develop innovative yet practical solutions to poverty through a community-led development approach and widely share these lessons to encourage replication. We envision a world of equity, justice and peace where people achieve their full potential and live a life of quality and dignity in harmony with the environment. We are inspired and live by our credo. Our continuous effort to build the capacity of the poor and those who work with them is based on our belief in the following principles: PARTNERSHIPS - based on mutual respect, knowledge, trust, and help; TEAMWORK - a multi-disciplinary approach valuing diversity and inclusive communication; EXCELLENCE - highly professional work demands accountability and good governance; THE 4 C’s- individual qualities of Character, Competence, Commitment, and Creativity.
International Institute of Rural Reconstruction‘s Programs
The International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) is a community development and hands-on organization with more than 60 years of experience. We have implemented people-centered, sustainable development programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and today, maintain a strong presence in East Africa and Southeast Asia. Strategically located in the Global South, IIRR runs its programs from the field. While it is registered as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization in the U.S. and has its headquarters in the Philippines, all senior decision-makers are located in the field. It is important to us that our staff hail from the region where they will work. This allows our programs to be locally-relevant, tailored, and community-driven and keeps our overhead low.
WHAT WE DO - OUR WORK IIRR believes in inspiring, building capacity, and supporting people to fight poverty in their own communities. To do this, we work directly with partners in the community to implement sustainable, community development projects, to test innovations, and to document and widely share our joint work through publications, videos, and conferences.
